Friday, 2023 - Term 2 Week 4
Principal's Message
Road safety
Burwood Council have contacted the school to let me know that they will be sending traffic wardens to patrol our area due to some unsafe practices.
This week is Walk to School Safely. Students were encouraged to walk to school on Friday. Walking your child to school, when you can, is a great opportunity to:
- highlight the importance of being a safe road user
- talk about and role model how to be a safe pedestrian
- be physically active
- stimulate the brain for a productive day of thinking
- help the environment by lowering noise and air pollution, and traffic congestion
- start a new routine!
Cross Country
Thank you to Mrs Kumar and Mrs Tarren for organising the cross country carnival and to our teachers who helped make it a successful day, despite it being the coldest day of the year! Congratulations to all students who participated in the event and gave their best effort.

School News
Acknowledgement of Country
At our recent K-2 Assembly, Nella from KM gave her first acknowledgement of country. Nella is a proud Bundjalung and Kamilaroi student and this was a great opportunity for her to share this respectful message with our K-2 students. KM recently discovered that the artist and author Bronwyn Bancroft is also a proud Bundjalung woman, so we will be sharing her artworks with each acknowledgement of country in our assemblies. We are looking forward to Nella continuing to share her cultural heritage with us throughout the year.

School Bytes
Dear Parents and Carers,
As part of the department upgrade our school will be transitioning to the School Bytes finance system on 23 May 2023. This means that we are required to implement a short payment lockout period from 17/05/23 – 22/05/23. We will not be able to receive any payments until that date.
After the transition, a School Bytes portal will be available for you to register and begin using (Link: https://portal.schoolbytes.education). Through the portal, you will easily be able to download a receipt once a payment has been made and have access to view all historical payments when needed. Online payments are processed in real-time and can be viewed by school staff immediately.
Permission notes will now be sent via School Bytes for you to complete electronically. This system is being used successfully in other schools and we believe it will be a streamlined process for the school and parents. If you have difficulty accessing School Bytes please do not hesitate to contact the office (02) 9745 22 99.

PSSA News - Soccer
After a rushed start to the season and having to manage the new grass area in the playground, the boys soccer teams have focused on developing their skills together as a team. By working together and aiming to improve our skills one game at a time, we have seen some success as a result of our teamwork.
The Junior team has enjoyed some success on the field, resiliently using our first loss against Abbotsford (0-6) to win against Dobroyd Point (2-1) and a draw against Russell Lea (1-1).
The Seniors have had a more difficult start to the season, but continue to try their best. They have lost to Abbotsford (0-12), Dobroyd Point (0-4) and Russell Lea (0-6).
Here's to continuing to make improvements over the season!
New syllabus – Mathematics.
K-2 are teaching from the new mathematics syllabus this year. 3-6 will begin teaching this syllabus next year. Teachers regularly engage in professional learning and this week teachers have been focusing on the working mathematically processes within the new syllabus. In mathematics these processes are communicating, understanding and fluency, reasoning and problem solving. Students work mathematically by using these processes in an interconnected way.
Here are students in Stage 3 working mathematically by communicating their thinking and using reasons to justify their choice of strategy during a task.
