Student Wellbeing Week

Student Wellbeing Week started yesterday with a fun pyjama day and it was actually the perfect way to roll into the school week from a relaxing long weekend.

I encourage all of our families to talk with their children about the kindness day challenge. It is important to remember that children learn to be kind by receiving kindness and through offering kindness to others. The challenge provides our students with an opportunity to learn about and consider other people's experiences and emotions. The end of the week highlights the importance of healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. A huge thank you to the school leaders and Mrs Lemaire who  organised the week.

Regional Cross Country

Today Floyd J, in 4 Tidal represented our school and zone at the Sydney East PSSA Cross Country Carnival at Miranda Park. We wish him the best of luck and know that he will try his very best.

Staffing News

For the first half of the year Ms Ternovy had taken a period of leave and has since decided to retire. Ms Ternovy has spent many years at Ultimo Public School and many of our families will remember her for her passion and love of the creative arts. We wish her all the best for the next exciting chapter and she will be dearly missed by the entire Ultimo community.

Ms Barkla, who has been at our school for the last 7 years has also made the decision to leave this year. She has been committed to supporting students who have required tiered intervention over the years and she has been a wonderful source of knowledge and experience for our staff. We wish her all the best and she too, will be dearly missed by her students and colleagues.

Mrs Lemaire will be leaving us at the end of Term 2 as she awaits the birth of her daughter. We wish her the very best and can't wait for her to share some photos of the newest addition to her family. Mrs Lemaire has been working three days this year in the capacity of Assistant Principal Learning and Wellbeing.

Stage 2 excursion: Chau Chak Wing Museum

This morning our Stage 2 students walked with their teachers to the Chau Chak Wing Museum at The University of Sydney. Visiting the museum is a wonderful opportunity for our students to see a diverse range of exhibitions involving contemporary art, natural history specimens and ancient artefacts. I can't wait until they return so we can hear about their visit and the new knowledge they have acquired.

School Uniform

Please encourage your child to wear full school uniform each day. Now that the weather is cooler, there has been an increase in the number of students who are wearing branded jumpers and other items to school. Uniforms can be purchased through Flexischools and will be delivered to your child during the week. If any families require assistance in purchasing uniforms please contact the administration team who can assist.

Student Representative Council Badge Presentation

Ms Jankovic and Ms Cassell have very kindly organised a special badge presentation for students who have been nominated to be in the SRC. This event will be held on Tuesday 28th June at 2.30 pm in the COLA. Parents and families are welcome to attend.

Attendance: Be on time for school

Being on time for school each day is essential for school success. The number of students late to school has been increasing this term. Morning supervision begins at 8.30am and I would encourage all students to be at school by 8.45am each day. This will allow students to meet up with their friends, walk together to their classrooms and be present when their teacher discusses the overview of the day. If your child is regularly late for school this can have a serious impact on your child's education and the way that they view school. Being on time is an important life long lesson for your child.

School Leaders Report

This week’s value is fairness. Fairness means treating people equally or in a way that is right or reasonable. Fairness is shown  at school by implementing  we are all responsible  fairly everywhere and treated all the same. There are lots of ways we can all demonstrate fairness this week. In the playground, we can show fairness by passing the ball to each other, and by working hard in class so we earn the fun and free times in the playground or in the classroom.

In the classroom, we can  show fairness by treating our teachers, or peers how we would all would like to be treated and be fair. We  think fairness is important because it will be used in our everyday life. For example, if you want to get a job, you have to show fairness to your boss and work friends.

This week is Wellbeing Week. Yesterday, we had our pyjama  day and students from had a calm and relaxing day with their pyjamas on. Today is  kindness day,you  can show kindness by opening the door for someone,  saying something nice and smiling. Tomorrow is picnic day, and 400+ students are having a fruit picnic together in the school. All students can bring a mat to sit on while they enjoy their fruits. This Friday is fun fitness day and students will be up and moving playing class games with their peers with fairness in mind!

And a reminder this Friday 5 / 6  Lobsters are hosting an amazing assembly item at 12:55pm.

We can’t wait to see their fabulous performance ! All parents are welcome to come along, just come through the administrative office and sign in first!

Next week Stage 3 is heading off to the Great Aussie Bush Camp and all students are extremely excited for it. We are happy to see everyone at camp helping, laughing and having fun. We hope to see you bright and early on the 20th this Monday!

Stage 2 is off on an excursion to the museum today. We are sure that they will have a fun and an  educational experience at the museum .

Student Representative Council Report

Being a member of the SRC is awesome because you get to suggest ways you can help make Ultimo Public School a better place to learn. Our school is already one of the luckiest schools because so many students are always willing to help out. I chose to run in the SRC because it’s a fun way to learn leadership skills such as speaking in front of the school at assemblies and also we have the opportunity to bring new ideas to our school.

P&C Report

Ultimo P&C is looking for a new Secretary, would you be able to help communicate with the wider school community to promote P&C events?

Silvia, our current secretary, will be going overseas and would like to handover the P&C communications to a new parent/community member.

The Secretary’s role is to attend P&C meetings (1 hour each month), take notes of the discussions and produce minutes. Also, part of the role is to send communications to the school using the newsletter, Flexischools, school signs and other channels to support P&C activities and initiatives.

If you’re interested, please email: ultimo public <ultimopandc@gmail.com>

Also, would you like to volunteer your time for events or be added to the distribution list for the meeting minutes or agenda? Feel free to get in touch.
