Friday, 25 February 2022 Term 1 Week 9
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers
Unfortunately, this week at school I tripped and have broken a bone. As a result, I will be off school for the remainder of this term. Amenah Mourad will be relieving as principal while I am off. I feel very confident leaving the school in her capable hands.
I will hand over to Ms Mourad, as relieving principal.
Ms Kim Self - Principal
The Department of Health have informed us that the peak for this COVID wave is expected over the next few weeks. Today another box of RAT tests will be sent home with each child to use if your child has symptoms or as needed. The Department of Health is also concerned about a bad flu season. We thank you for keeping your child at home if they have any symptoms of flu, COVID or even a cold to protect all of our students and community.
Our school and community have worked extraordinarily well to limit the spread in comparison to other school sites and I thank you for that. As you can imagine, the impact of covid and close contact isolation, together with the shortage of supply of casual teachers is having an impact. We are working diligently to ensure classes are covered and that students' learning is continuing as expected. Thank you for your understanding of these disruptions.
Today the P&C held their AGM and elected new members for 2022. The school would like to thank the outgoing P&C for their support throughout 2021 and this term. A special thank you to Jens who has held the role of president for the past few years. On behalf of the staff, students and community we would like to acknowledge the time and support you have provided, especially during the challenges faced during the pandemic. Your commitment and collaboration is greatly appreciated.
The school community would also like to wish Ms Self a speedy recovery. We look forward to having Kim back at school soon.

P&C Message
NSW Government $5 billion WestInvest Fund for Schools
The NSW Government has announced a $5 billion WestInvest program will fund infrastructure projects in selected Local Government Areas (including Burwood). This is additional Government spending to be spread across a number of areas including: "modernising local schools" (as well as other areas like enhancing green space, community infrastructure, cultural facilities, high streets and local traffic conditions).
Have your say by telling the NSW Government that we need to invest in modernising Burwood Public School here: https://www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/westinvest. You simply need to select Burwood LGA, modernising local schools, and state that you want to upgrade Burwood Public School to improve the lives of the parents and students here.
The P&C have spoken with the WestInvest Fund and they have stated that the more submissions they receive about our school, the greater the chance we will receive additional funding. Please hurry as submissions close on 31 March 2022.

#On The Road - Hold My Hand, Keep Me Safe
The best way to keep young children safe in busy traffic environments is to hold their hands or keep them close, particularly when crossing the road, in car parks and near busy intersections. It is a good idea to hold hands till age of eight and supervise them closely till age of 10.
Always model positive road behaviour and encourage them to:
STOP once step back from the road
LOOK both ways
LISTEN for approaching traffic
THINK if it safe to cross
Together, We Can Make Our Roads Safe For Everyone
